Week 12 home to Yelverton

Axminster went into this game on the back of a bad week home to Ottery. With Ipplepen beating Bideford, Axminster missed out on an opportunity to keep space between them and Ipplepen in the league and gain on Bideford, but that was in the past now and a good performance would help keep things tight for Axminsters promotion hopes. Winning the toss Axminster batted, but were soon worried when the top 5 batsmen fell cheaply and the score at 54-5. Wakeley and Prior began a 40 run partnership to take the score up 97, and after Prior got a leading edge, young Matthew Pile proved for the third week in a row that he is just as able with the bat as the ball. The two batsmen put on 117 for the 7th wicket and managed to get the score over the 200 mark. Pile (52)tried to push the score on before been stumped but Wakeley finished 73 not out. Axminster set Yelverton 218 for 8

With the ball Axminster started very economically, after 10 overs Yelverton had managed 27 runs but had only lost 1 wicket. As the game progressed scoring runs became easier as the ball stopped swinging, but in the last third Axmiater managed to pick up wickets and keep some pressure on Yelverton. S.Luffman proved the main run scorer before G.Larcombe (2-51) claimed that scalp,  and M.Pile finished with 4-41. In the last over of the game Yelverton needed 10 runs to win, but two wickets from Pile meant Yelverton finished 5 runs short of the win. Ax picked up 20 points with Yelverton taking 9.
