Away vs Bideford
On the back of 5 successive victories from both teams, this past Saturdays game was a top of the table clash. A long trip up the north Devon link road brought Axminster to the westward Ho ground. On winning the toss Axminster asked the hosts to bat, due to two players scheduled to leave early. Some tight bowling from J.seward and M.Pile saw the score restricted, with Pile taking the first wicket. The spin combination of P.miller and G.Larcombe restricted Bideford’s scoring, but in the last third of the game standards fell, and aided by no less then 5 drop catches, the hosts posted a total of 246 for 8. N.taylor took another 3 wickets.
Axminster were under pressure early on with some very good opening away swing bowling from Bideford, and with the score 18-4 it looked like the home team were on to an early finish. P.Miller then turned hero with the bat, riding the pace and bounce on the way to an unbeaten 89, and the only other score worth mentioning came from B.Garner with 22. The overs ran out with 176 on the board for Axminster. Bideford carried on their unbeaten run taking 19 points from the match with Axminster getting 7, which leaves them 14 points behind in second.
This Saturday Axminster 1st are home to Ipplepen, and will be looking to right a lot of wrongs in their overall game and get back to winning ways.
