2Xl Match Report
Away to Whimple
Captain Perry lost the toss which meant Whimple put Axminster into bat. With Sean hitting quick runs from the go he soon reached his 50 but first to go was Peter Kiy with a good knock of 30ish which brought Brad Cross to the crease. A few balls later Captain Perry was bowled the ball of the innings which moved a long way off the seam to bowl him out for a quick 77. Cross and Farley started to build a solid partnership together with Cross’s 50 coming first then Farley’s 50 coming 1 ball later. Runs were coming quickly with Farley and Cross both hitting the ball well but about 6 overs from the end Farley flashed at one which picked out point which meant he was out for a superb 71 and a great partnership of 168 with Cross. James Whetlor was next to the crease playing big shots from the go. But next to go was Cross when he hit one straight to 45 but he still earned himself a well deserved 94 runs. In the last few overs runs were still coming quickly with Whetlor picking up a quick 20ish and Sam Farrow picking up 10 off 2 balls. Axminster set a total of 358 to win.
James Whetlor opened the bowling and bowled well from the word go but the two Whimple openers where stuck in place and it took a few overs for Whetlor to get the break through with a superb catch at 1st slip by Sam Farrow. Some tight bowling for a while meant that the scoring was slow but Whimple put up some resistance with the batsmen Burden making 70ish. Whetlor bowled well and got himself 3 wickets and the other bowlers chipped in with the odd wicket but star bowler again was Sam Farrow taking 5 wickets making it 12 wickets this season so far! Axminster bowled Whimple out for 204 meaning Axminster got the full 20 points and remains joint top with countess wear. This week the 2Xl travel the extreme distance to play at Kilmington.
