Home vs Upottery
Axminster Second Xl lost the toss and was asked to field first on a very warm day and a hard track. James Whetlor getting off to a flyer picking up a LBW wicket in the first over and finishing with 1 for 45 off 9. It then took Axminster a little while to get the next wicket but that next wicket coming through Dave Hayball from a catch from Captain Perry and Dave finishing the match with 1 for 33 off 9. The run rate was very well contained by the opening two bowlers and continued to be contained by the next two bowlers Sam Farrow and Alex Wraight and it didn’t take long for Sam to get into his stride by picking up two wickets in his second over. Well aided by Alfie, Sam sent them back to the hutch with only 139 on the board and Alfie finishing with 3 for 22 off 8 and Sam once again strikes with 5 for 31 off 7.4.
John Swain and Captain Perry opened the batting with them both getting off to a quick start with 14 coming off the first over. Axminster soon then lost there first wicket of John Swain getting bowled for 6. With Captain Perry in some form he was stroking the ball all over the park but unfortunately his number 3 batsmen Brad Cross didn’t stick around long getting 7 off 7. This brought Mark Enticott to the crease by which point Captain Perry was well over 50 and scoring quickly so Mark played the important supporting role and helped Sean get another successive 100. Axminster knocked the total off in 12 overs and receiving full 20 points.
This weekend the 2nds travel to Feniton.
